Let it begin with me

I often think that parenthood is the most complex 'executive' role I’ve ever held. As a woman in my 40s who transitioned from the professional workforce to stay-at-home motherhood, I quickly realized that the domestic sphere requires a unique kind of leadership—one that balances the never-ending 'to-do' list with the deep, quiet work (and not-so-quiet work) of shaping a human being.

When my son, A, began preschool, I found myself with pockets of time to create Storytime with Umma, a book collection born from a simple necessity: the need to find stories that reflect who our children are, where they come from, and the vast world they will one day inherit.

I believe the books we read to our children are the blueprints for their empathy and self-worth and valuable opportunity to connect. However, in the daily whirlwind of running a busy household, finding these resources is a luxury of time that many parents don't have.

Whereas Storytime with Umma is a book archive, Umma’s Edit is my personal archive to resources that help make your everyday life a little easier. My goal is to do the heavy lifting of research and curation so you don’t have to. Here, you will find a look at the books and systems—tools that help our children see themselves clearly while helping us manage our homes with a bit more grace and a lot less chaos.

We are raising the next generation of healthy, happy, and grounded human beings. Let it begin with me.

I don't have time to find all the best resources but do believe in working as a collective to share helpful resources with others so if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to send me a DM on Instragram or email me.
